What is a Merchant Account? A merchant account is a business/corporate bank account opened on approval of a contractual agreement between your business and the banks we represent. A merchant account enables your business to accept credit card payments from your customers. How long does it take to set-up an account? We approve the vast majority of our submitted applications within 72 working hours. On approval and signing of a services agreement the application is processed with the selected financial institution. If all information supplied is correct, the opening of the individual Merchant account will take 5-10 working days. Note that processors who offer you an account set-up in 24-48 hours will probably process you on an “aggregated” account. This is an account which already exists and which you will probably share with other merchants. Be careful of this!
What does “processing” a credit card mean? To process a credit card means to submit the client’s card information for payment. The transaction is authorised through a credit card processing network in real time. The same principal applies when you go to a retail store and the store owner accepts your card and swipes it through a credit card terminal. In order for the store owner to accept credit cards for payment, the store owner, called a merchant, must have a Merchant Account with an acquirer (a bank).
Do I really need to accept credit cards? By accepting major credit cards you can increase your credibility, customer convenience, and your sales.

Can I process transactions from multiple businesses through my individual Merchant Account? If you are a franchisor and would like to open a merchant account for your franchisees, the bank could accept it. However, in general the answer is no. You will need to apply for a separate Merchant Account for every additional business you would like processing for.
Are there volume restrictions? No there are not. However, we will do a risk assessment on your business and set a volume cap for your business. As part of a fraud management program we also may set restrictions on daily, weekly, and per transaction limits per credit card registered.
Will I have an access to my processing records? Yes. You will have a secure login to our Business Intelligent Platform (BIP). Inside the BIP you can monitor, manage and download reports on all processed transactions.
What fees can I expect to pay for a Merchant Account? Fees vary from 3, 5% - 6, 5%, and depend on volume, risk, and industry type. A “per transaction fee” will also apply. The account set-up fee and the “per transaction” fee vary from contract to contract.
