The problem with credit card transactions in an E-Commerce environment is the fact that you cannot guarantee your customer's identity. In short, you don't know whether the shopper entering credit card data is in fact the cardholder. Through 3D Secure this changes The customer are required to identified themselves as the cardholder by way of a security PIN they have to enter online before the transaction is processed. Payline offers this online authentification process according to the Visa and MasterCard 3D Secure program. 3D Secure processing is compulsory at Payline! The benefits: It enables the authentication of the cardholder before authorization and provides proof that the credit card was used by the legitimate cardholder. Potential fraudsters fail at the point of authentication. 3D Secure increases cardholder confidence in E-Commerce. Cardholders can no longer reverse payments on the grounds of not being responsible for the transaction. 3D Secure is supported by both leading credit card organizations and should evolve into the leading security system for credit card transactions within the next few years.
The 3D Secure process work as follows: The cardholder selects to pay online with his card and enters the credit card data. Payline routes the credit card data via the credit card organization to the issuer. The issuing bank checks whether the card is registered for 3D Secure and sends the authentification server URL (ACS) to the cardholder's computer. A re-direct to the ACS is generated on the cardholder's computer. The cardholder receives an input form (pop-up) from the issuer and is required to submit his 3D Secure PIN/Password. The authentification server checks this password and forwards a response via the customer's computer to the acquirer. - After receiving the response from the authentification server, the authorization process is completed.
